Meet the Instructor

While growing up in Birmingham, Alabama, Tara Darby idolized the glamour and style of supermodels like Cindy Crawford, Elle Macpherson, and Linda Evangelista, but was never really interested in pursuing a career in field of fashion modeling herself.
This all changed she was discovered at the age of 14, by a prominent modeling agency executive, while walking through a shopping mall with her mother. Immediately recognizing the poise and natural beauty of this wide eyed teenager, he immediately assigned Darby the job of showcasing a new line of couture wear at a local fashion show.
After experiencing the fun and excitement of her first modeling assignment, Darby convinced her parents to enroll her in modeling classes, while at first hesitant about their young daughter venturing in to the challenging world of professional modeling, they finally allowed their daughter to continue modeling after she promised not to let it affect her education.
She did keep her promise and after graduating from high school, she was later accepted at the University of Houston, which awarded her with a Bachelors of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. While juggling school and modeling jobs, Darby also started participating in beauty pageants for teens.
After several years of hard work and dedication, Darby catapulted to fame when she was crowned Miss Alabama 2004, and a few months later became a Miss USA contestant and finalist. Although she lost the coveted crown that year to Missouri native, Shandi Finnessey, being in front of millions of television viewers around the world started her passion for broadcasting, and introduced her to a successful career in television presenting.
Darby's broadcast career had her hosting several syndicated television shows on ABC, NBC, CBS, and HD-NET, including Home & Lifestyle, The Business of Show, Crossing Country, Guitars & Cadillacs, Get Out, and the Market News First. Darby has also been featured as a guest on numerous national and international television shows, including Larry King Live on CNN.
One of the most fearless and adventurous women in the showbiz today, one of Darby's most proud career moment came when she accepted the challenge of participating in the hit television show, Fear Factor, and won!
From her first fashion show in the small town of Birmingham, to a successful career in Hollywood, Darby has catwalked way in to the echelons of the entertainment industry. She has appeared on the runway for some of the top fashion designers in the world in London, Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, and her photographs routinely grace the glossy pages of high-profile fashion magazines. Darby has also many large corporations extend their market reach by acting as a corporate ambassador and spokesperson for several well known brands around the world.
Darby currently resides in Los Angeles, and spends most of her time flying around the globe, training future supermodels with Hollywood for Kids workshops. She is also busy developing film and television projects for various studios, and helps young women achieve their pageant dreams through her consulting firm, Sashes & Crowns.
